According to this calculation UK government debt goes through the Â£1 trillion mark today. This figure excludes PFI, unfunded state pension schemes and a list of other liabilities such of those of the state banks, Network Rail and nuclear decommissioning.
Last year the UK government spent Â£155 billion more than it collected, the deficit. This year the figure will be about Â£150 billion. That is something like Â£5,000 per tax payer per year.
